$600 will provide a water storage tank and pad and $200.00 will fund irrigation pipes and tubing for the Kakamega Orphan Project. Friends of Kakamega own 7 acres of farmland which grows food for the 50 children who have been orphaned because of AIDS. Unfortunately because of drought and devastating hail storms, the harvests have been very disappointing and left the children short of food. Irrigation for the vegetables is seen as the most effective and financially efficient method of ensuring year round vegetables. The water tank would be placed on top of a cement pad next to the hand-pumped well. This would allow water to be stored high enough up so that a gravity drawn irrigation system is possible.
