The holiday season often exacerbates feelings of isolation and depression for immigrant families who are far away from loved ones. Since 2005, Street Level Health Project has hosted a free annual community event that supports and creates community among immigrants in Oakland, California's Fruitvale District. Now in its 11th year, the holiday celebration is a highly anticipated event that hosts over 450 low-income immigrant families for an evening of performances, dinner and cultural celebration. Holiday gifts are distributed to children ages 2-15, such as learning games or athletic gear, which cost approximately $15.00 each.
