44% of Kenya's female population live below the international poverty line of US $1.25 per day. Living in poverty with a limited education greatly hinders these women from finding jobs to support their families. They are often at risk of being trapped in dehumanizing professions such as the sex trade or selling illicit home brewed alcohol, in order to feed their children. This project will empower poor women in rural villages with valuable sewing and business skills. Upon graduation from the free 12-month course, the graduates will receive a sewing machine so that they can set up their own business and earn a respectable living.
