$5.00 a month will provide food for a child in a school which is run in a home outside of Arusha. This school, which has 25 children, is in a very poor area where the main food is ugali, a food made from corn flour and water. Unfortunately this does not provide adequate nutrition. For $5.00 a 3-5 year-old child will be provided a nutritious lunch each day for a month. This school, which teaches English, costs the parents $3.00 per month. English instruction is important because the secondary schools are taught in English. The eventual goal is to have a K-7 school. The local school does not accept students until they are seven and costs $53.00 per month and instruction is only in the local language, Swahili.
