Hope College has an enrollment of 500 students in grades K-13. The school serves a remote, rural community where the parents subsist with gardens and raising goats or chickens. There is six months of rain and six months of dryness. There is no irrigation in the area. When the seasons are bad, the food is scarce. Most Haitians spend 50% -70% of their annual income on food. Most students arrive at school without breakfast and many of these same students have no food during the day unless the school can provide it.
