44% of Kenya's female population lives below the international poverty line of $1.25 per day. Additionally, single mothers of children with disabilities find it extremely difficult to care for their child while seeking menial daily work such as seasonal field work or house cleaning. Purchasing disposable diapers for their children is out of the question. Recently Springs of Hope Foundation made 100 reusable cloth diapers that were designed by their head teacher, Martha and sewn by their tailoring students, to be given to mothers whose children attend a free community disability day care center in Nakuru. The children and adults range in age from infant to 30 years. The reception was overwhelming, with requests for not only more small and medium sized diapers, but also many adult sized diapers. Each cloth diaper comes with 3 absorbent inner linings, which can be removed and washed.
