The school of Ben Hamdi Mohamed Al-Eid is located in a remote Sahara area of southern Algeria in the village of Tasset, which is subjected to harsh desert climatic conditions, especially in the winter season. The temperatures are often below freezing. It is a compete elementary school with five sections, each section consisting of about 15 students, all together about 75 boys and girls. Each classroom would greatly benefit from one or two electric heaters. Electricity supply is provided by solar panels. The project will be overseen by a local guide in cooperation with the town’s community association and community leaders. A Lantern Projects Board member will be visiting the school in the Spring.
