Crucial water supplies are needed for the people displaced in Gaza by the war and in northwestern Syria. Subsidies for water in the camps in Syria have been discontinued, leaving thousands without access to clean drinking water. In Gaza destroyed infrastructure has cut water supplies to the people there. Without subsidies or the infrastructure to distribute water, the cost has become prohibitive for many displaced families. Nearly half of the residents in the camps are children, who, along with the elderly, are particularly vulnerable to dehydration and the adverse effects of water shortages, including disease.
